Wedding Flat Lays | How to Create the best Flat Lays for your Weddings

A flat lay is an image taken from above or side of an array of objects. This would include items like your invitation suite, perfume, shoes, etc.

Wedding flat lay details are essential shots. You likely mulled over the perfect pair of earrings, what scent you want to wear, or maybe even bought a particular book to write your vows. All of these small, thoughtful decisions play a part in storytelling on your wedding day. Years down the road, you'll be able to see your invitation suite, the way your shoes looked on your wedding day, the bracelet your grandma bought you, and more.

So what goes into creating a flat lay?

I typically photograph flat lays shortly after I arrive on a wedding day. I carve out an hour for "detail shots," 30 minutes for flat lay, 30 minutes for the dress. It's normal for your getting ready space to have a lot of bags when 5+ people are getting ready in that space. Thatโ€™s why I recommend my couples put ALL their details they want photographed in a labeled box. This allows you to focus on the joy of the day, without any added mental load of hunting down your perfume in the blue bag beneath the troves of other bags in the corner of the room.

Since time is crucial on a wedding day and peace of mind, I send my brides an essential detail shot list containing items you DON'T want to forget. That way, they can set the pieces they want to be photographed in a special box waiting for me when I arrive.

Bonus: This free downloadable list includes lists for both partners (mix and match, or use the same list etc.). We didn't forget about your significant other.
